Samsung CLP 315 Color Laser printer user reviews

"My review for Samsung CLP 315 Color Laser printer
What's great about it: The printer was really easy to set up, no hassle at all; just put the software in and followed the steps! The print speed is fast, for both mono and colour. However, it takes a little while to 'warm up' at the start of each new print batch but it's only about a minute. When it warms up, it doesn't do any test prints like other makes so the ink isn't wasted. For what I got for the price, I think it was excellent value for money. I have found Samsung to be a v good make for computer products and will definately buy from them again.
What's not so great:It's not really a bad point, it just could be a little better. The print quality isn't as crisp as it could be but then that could also depend on the quality of the paper used - I just pick up whatever's reasonably priced! For day-to-day office use it's great, but if you need to make high quality prints, you probably require a higher spec printer with better dpi."

"Samsung CLP-315 Color Laser Printer is good in parts. It's small, easy to maintain, quiet when printing and costs very little for colour laser technology. Against this, it's slow, expensive to run and the print quality is better elsewhere. It's a good buy for general home office work, as long as you don't need top-quality colour graphics, and is excellent for straight black text. It would also sit well on a small business desktop or even on a manager's desk, for the occasional colour document."

"Samsung CLP-315 Color Laser Printer is a nifty little printer. Great picture quality and very compact for a laser printer. Not super fast but still gets the job done in reasonable time. A few things I didnt know were 1. the paper tray sticks out a few inches if you are using normal 8.5 by 11 paper. 2. Does not come with a usb cord. So if you dont have any extra laying around you must buy one with it. All in all I think it is the best laser printer you can get for the price."

"I was looking for a decent printer. I tried an HP PhotoSmart C8180 and didn't think much of it, but the CLP-315 printer is great.
It plugged in and worked straight away. I am using Mac OS X so I was a bit unsure as to how well it would work, but thus far, faultless.
The standard quality setting (not best) produces the best results I have ever seen on standard plain paper, and the printing speed blew me away. Unlike these inkjets that say they are fast but feel like they take an age, this printer thinks for 20 seconds on being woken up and then prints a page in about 3-4 seconds.
I cant wait to see what the best setting produces on glossy paper.
Also if you are printing posters or flyers, the laser printed pages don't smudge in the rain as inkjet ink does.
When I buy a printer I like to feel I am getting a workhorse that will last the distance, will not complain about not having ink every week, and is not built to be thrown away.
This printer looks and feels solid, and the fact that the toner will last 10x as long as an equivalently priced injet printer means that I don't feel like I am being ripped off every time I hit the print button.
If you want to know more, the manual is downloadable from the samsung site, its worth a look before you purchase. And for your information it doesn't print borderless, a point which is not made very obvious in the blurb. "

"My review on Samsung CLP-315 Color Laser Printer
Pros: Every time I use it, I'm reminded how happy I am to have it. Small, fast to warm up from a cold standby state, inexpensive, great copies. Simple to set up (MacOS 10.5.6), though I did have to load the drivers from CDROM. It's also extremely simple in operation: it has one button on top and a bunch of LEDs which give a nice psychedelic display if you start it up in a dark room.

Cons: The one thing I miss is a larger paper tray -- it only holds 150p. Other issues that may be important for some: Only 4ppm for color, but I mostly print one-off copies of small documents, so that's not an issue for me; the quick warm-up (much faster than the HP behemoth I have at work) counts for much more. Color prints are not photo quality, but I would say they are good marketing-brochure quality. No duplex, of course, and only USB connectivity, but you knew that.

Other Thoughts: In a week of daily use, I haven't gotten the odor, paper jams and other problems that a few others have cited. Those who want a wireless printer could spend the extra $$ and spring for the 315W. There seems to be disagreement among the reviewers on the economics of operation. As far as I can see, the $139 replacement cartridge is rated for 6000 color pages, which comes out to about $0.023 per page. People are saying that the ink supplies seem to be going down faster than that, but the cartridge that comes with the printer (as with most printers sold) have lower capacity than the replacements you buy. Could this explain it? Someone said power consumption is high while printing; all I can say is that I have it plugged into the same power strip and in turn into the same outlet box as 3 lights, 2 computers, 2 external drives, wireless, DSL modem and more, and I've seen nothing to make me aware of this."
